Diversity & Inclusion - Executive Update, February 2017

 

  • The Diversity and Inclusion Committee held their first meeting of the fiscal year with Wanda Granier, President and CEO of Bridgework Partners, as the new Chairman.  
  • Phillip J. Jones, VisitDallas President and CEO, received the distinguished Interdenominational Human Relations award on Friday, February 3rd at the Dallas Trade Mart from the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. Thanks to board members Don Perez and Joyce Williams that joined us. 
  • Spoke to a group of Region Bank Executives as part of their Mentoring program. Thanks to former VisitDallas Chairman Tyrus Sanders for the invitation.
  • Phillip J. Jones, VisitDallas President and CEO, along with Mayor Pro-Tem Monica Alonzo and Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Erik Wilson, spoke at the MegaFest Press Conference on February 17th.  We officially announced PepsiCo as the titled sponsor.
  • In recognition of Black History Month, over 30 employees participated in a private tour of the African American Museum conducted by Dr. Harry Robinson, Founder and President. Dr. Robinson focused on the History, Architecture, Folk Art Collection and the Decorative Arts section. Following the museum tour, George Keaton, historical preservation advocate and educator of Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. gave a brief driving tour of some of the major attractions including South Dallas Cultural Center, Juanita Craft Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
  • Serviced and supported several meetings/events, including meeting with National Dental Association, MegaFest and The Dallas Sports Commission "Beyond the Baseline" event at the American Airlines Center.
  • Attended the Texas Diversity Council Meeting and the Dallas Business Journal Minority Business Leaders Awards Luncheon - Congratulations to our Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer who was one of the recipients of the 2017 Minority Business Leaders Award.
