FORT WORTH (Feb. 26, 2009) – The North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee today announced that the NFL has made a historic designation in regards to Super Bowl XLV. For the first time the league has designated host cities for the conference champions. Fort Worth will serve as Host City for the AFC Champion, while Dallas will welcome the NFC Champs.
The designations were formally revealed today at a Media Luncheon at the Fort Worth Club. Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman joined regional leaders in making the announcement.
Super Bowl XLV will be played on Feb. 6, 2011 in the Cowboys’ new stadium in Arlington.
“This is a true regional effort and this another way the NFL is showing citizens of North Texas that they are serious about involving the entire Metroplex,” said Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief. “We are delighted that Fort Worth has been named Host City to the AFC Champion. That team, whoever it turns out to be, will stay in the Omni hotel in downtown Fort Worth and train at TCU. We’re excited about this opportunity. Our region has a uniting goal – to make Super Bowl XLV the finest Super Bowl ever.”
Said Host Committee President & CEO Bill Lively: “One of the great delights of my involvement with this endeavor has been to watch Mayors Moncrief, (Robert) Cluck (of Arlington) and (Tom) Leppert (of Dallas) work together. These are serious men and they are honorable men. They believe this effort is for the greater good of the entire region. The NFL has sensed this spirit of regional cooperation and wants to honor it. This historic announcement really is a testament to these three Mayors and their fine work thus far on this initiative.”
The North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee is a 501c(6) not-for-profit corporation created to collaborate with the region and the NFL to host Super Bowl XLV.
