DALLAS , TEXAS –Final plans are set for the 2009 Veterans Day Parade Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 in downtown Dallas . An Oath of Enlistment will be given to over 100 area enlistees by General Travis at 10:45 AM. The “Eleventh Hour Ceremony” commences at 11:00 AM at City Hall. It will include a wreath laying, a rifle salute by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Taps, a Missing Man Formation flown by T-38’s from the EuroNATO Training Wing Sheppard AFB. The Massing of the Colors will be performed by area High School JROTC cadets. The parade will honor the Military Medical Corps of all Services.
Mayor Tom Leppert will bring greetings from the City of
Perot, Chairman Emeritus of Perot Systems. Mr. Perot is known for his patriotism and his continuous support
of the military and veterans. The honored military speaker will be Major General (Dr.) Thomas W. Travis USAF,
Commander of the 59th Medical Wing,
command pilot and chief flight surgeon, with more than 1,800 flying hours and is one of the Air Force’s few pilot-
physicians. He has flown the F-4, F-15, and F-16 as a mission pilot and, most recently, the Royal Air Force Hawk.
Leading the parade will be Grand Marshal LTC (Dr.) Jerrold Grodin USAR of the 94th Combat Support
Hospital, 807th Medical Command, U.S. Army Medical Corps,
Cardiologist in
The parade will feature over 150 military and veterans organizations, the 1st Cavalry Division Band - Horse Detachment and one of their marching units, the 36th Infantry Division Band, Texas Army National Guard, as well as area high school bands and JROTC units. The parade will commence at 11:20 AM, from Reunion Arena through downtown Dallas on Main Street and pass in review in front of Dallas City Hall .
