Holy Moly Spicy Guacamole!

We'll honor the not-so-official holiday for this tasty treat.

Whether you scoop it up with chips or you make it part of your tacos, if you are the kind of person who moans with pleasure when the tangy, buttery, fresh and spicy taste of guacamole hits your tongue, get ready to celebrate - Nov. 14 is National Spicy Guacamole Day.

A beloved Mexican import, guacamole has become a staple of many celebrations in Dallas and around the country, so it's only right that the spicy version of this wonderful concoction should have its own day.

Recipes for this now famous Aztec dip - it can also be a salsa - vary depending on the region of Mexico, but the ingredients that are always present are ripe avocados, salt and lime to balance out the buttery richness of the avocado. Perhaps the most popular variation is the one that includes chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro and, of course, chopped serrano peppers.

Fortunately, recipes are not required to enjoy a good spicy guacamole in Dallas because there are many places that serve this delectable dish.

Meso Maya - which can be found in several locations across Dallas, including uptown near the American Airlines Center - is so proud of its scrumptious guacamole that it's served to first-time visitors with home made tortillas as a welcome treat. It's a good thing that they also serve it as a side dish because you simply can't get enough. If it's not spicy enough for you, just ask for a little extra punch.

Uncle Julio's is famous for its margaritas and for its table-side guacamole, deliciously and masterfully prepared before your eyes. Gloria's is another restaurant with various locations in Dallas where guacamole is a must when dining or meeting for drinks.

Mr. Mesero, also in Uptown, offers another delectable option for celebrating National Spicy Guacamole Day in style. If you live in North Dallas and you don't want to miss out on the celebration, make your way to Don Pepe's Rancho Mexican Grill or Taco Diner, located on Belt Line Road.

Other wonderful places to enjoy a smashing spicy guacamole include Urban Taco at Mockingbird Station, Chino Chinatown in Trinity Groves and El Fenix at any of its many locations throughout the city.

Don't forget to go to one of these or your favorite spot in Dallas for National Spicy Guacamole Day on Nov. 14 and enjoy.
