State Fair 101: How to save at the gate

Save on admission, buy an extra Fletcher's Corny Dog.

September is here and that means we're counting down the days until the Sept. 30 opening day of the State Fair of Texas. We know you'll want to go more than once, so here's how to save on admission.

 

Throughout the fair (September 30-October 23)

Ride DART and save.
Thanks to the convenience of the nearby Fair Park Station, getting to and in the State Fair is a breeze. Buy your discounted tickets to the fair right on your DART GoPASS app. Admission tickets are just $16 and child/senior tickets are $12 ($2 savings compared to purchasing at the gate).

Save on tickets while running errands.  
Kroger and Walgreens offer advance purchase general admission tickets for just $16.50 ($1.50 savings) and season passes for $34.95 (a $5 savings!)

Make it a Dr. Pepper night.  
Bring an empty Dr Pepper can after 5 p.m. each day and admission is half price. One can per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Find your discount with your lunch.
Before you recycle your McDonald's leftovers, check the tray liner for a $5 off general admission coupon. The coupon can also be used for half price off a child ticket with purchase of a general admission ticket. One coupon per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Pick up at discount while shopping at NorthPark Center. 
Find tickets for less at the concierge desk at NorthPark Center for just $15. $5 from each ticket will be donated to the Assist the Officer Foundation. 

 

Day Specific Discounts

Opening Day (September 30):

All active military, retired military and veterans receive FREE admission when they present valid documentation of military service at the gate. Spouses of service men and women with a valid Military Spouse ID and accompanying children under the age of 18 also receive FREE admission, courtesy of OneMain Financial.

Bring a full 20 oz. bottle of Dasani water (or any 20 oz. Coca-Cola product) for donation to the North Texas Food Bank to State Fair gates and get a coupon for half price admission. One donation per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Tuesdays (October 4, 11 and 18):

Bring an empty Dr Pepper can and receive a coupon for a $5 admission ticket to the State Fair. One can per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Head to the Midway and save – most rides are 6 coupons on Tuesdays, cutting off nearly half of the regular cost. Midway discounts exclude the Thrillway and the Texas Star. 

Wednesdays (October 5, 12 and 19):

Bring 4 cans of food for donation to the North Texas Food Bank to State Fair gates and receive a coupon for a $4 admission ticketOne (4 can) donation per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Thursdays (October 6, 13 and 20):

Senior citizens 60 years and better get into the Fair FREE every Thursday. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Bring an empty 20 oz. bottle of a Coca-Cola product and receive a coupon for a $6 admission ticket to the State Fair. One bottle per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Thursdays are all about being thrifty! Most items, including the popular cotton candy and funnel cakes, are between two and seven coupons, saving almost half the cost on most items.

Fridays (October 7, 14 and 21):

Save $5 on general admission tickets to the State Fair on Fridays with a coupon courtesy of 106.1 KISS FM. The coupon will be available on the KISS FM website closer to the start date of the fair and gets you in for $13. One coupon per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers.
