VistiDallas Annual Meeting

VisitDallas announced record sales and tourism numbers and exciting new partnerships at its annual meeting held Nov. 16 at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center with 700 in attendance. Last year, 26.7 million people visited Dallas, spending $4.6 billion and generating a total economic impact of $7.8 billion. The VisitDallas sales team booked 2.4 million future room nights and 42 citywide events in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, a record in both categories. All of this work totals to $1.96 billion in future economic impact for the city.

Phillip Jones, VisitDallas President & CEO, took the stage at the meeting to report these numbers, but also to thank the advocates and Texas state legislators who made them possible by helping defeat the bathroom bill. Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus was the meeting's keynote speaker.

VisitDallas also announced an exclusive partnership with Southwest Airlines to present Dallas' first Customer Service Master Class: It's Hospitality Y'all beginning March 9, 2018. Both businesses pride themselves on exceeding customer service expectations and have joined forces in creating a program that will teach the Dallas difference in hospitality. Big D Holiday

The PR team again assisted with BIG D Holiday, an annual promotion to showcase a full array of enchanting events – both holiday activities and ground-breaking exhibits only seen in Dallas this time of year – for locals and visitors to enjoy. In addition to the annual release, the team hosted two regional bloggers and influencers to share Dallas' holiday offerings with their followers.

The Edge of Texas

VisitDallas partnered with Texas Monthly to present The Edge of Texas, a weekend-long exploration of the people, ideas and subjects shaping the future of Texas and the world. The inaugural event was hosted in downtown Dallas on Nov. 10-11. The weekend consisted of three distinct experiences, including a Friday night kickoff with tantalizing cuisine, cocktails and music at the Fashion Industry Gallery; Saturday's day-long event where celebrities, thought leaders, musicians and artists from around the state told their stories and showcased their skills on two stages at The Joule and The Eye; and Saturday night's mashup of live performances by Shinyribs and Sarah Jaffe, live fire cooking by renowned chefs, pop-up bars and a futuristic campfire theme at the Longhorn Ballroom. The VisitDallas PR team led local outreach for the event, resulting in 132,979,859 total media impressions.

Smart Meetings

VisitDallas hosted Smart Meetings magazine, which is planning a Dallas feature about prominent hotel properties for its spring issue. The communications team coordinated property tours with a few hotel partners and hosted the editor to lunch at City Hall Bistro. The editor also conducted an interview with Phillip Jones, VisitDallas President & CEO, for the piece.


In mid-November, VisitDallas welcomed German freelance journalist Dorothee Baer-Bogenschutz. Dorothee's main focus was to explore Southfork and Dallas due to the legendary show's upcoming 40th anniversary. During her visit, Dorothee went horse riding at Southfork and toured the famous home, dined at The Rustic, explored the Arts District and visited the Sixth Floor Museum.

Residences Decoration

VisitDallas hosted French journalist Clement Sauvoy, who writes for Residences Decoration, an upscale design and lifestyle publication. Clement toured the Design District where he toured various galleries in the area including Starr Gallery and the Michael-Goss Foundation. He also took a walking architecture tour of the Dallas Arts District, dined at Bullion and got a special visit from Chef Bruno Davaillon.  

Glamour Paris

VisitDallas welcomed French journalist Alexis Chenu at the end of November. Alexis got a taste of the new restaurants and explored Dallas' nightlife throughout the city's various neighborhoods. Stops in his itinerary included Commissary, Bullion, the Statler's Over Easy and nights out in Deep Ellum, Oak Lawn and Greenville Avenue. The four-page feature will publish in the February issue of the magazine. 

Life & Style Magazine

VisitDallas hosted Alejandro Ortiz, editor of Life & Style, a top men's lifestyle publication in Mexico. Alejandro's itinerary included attending the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day football game, the Sixth Floor Museum, visiting high-end boutiques in Highland Park Village and drinks at Braindead Brewing in Deep Ellum.


VisitDallas hosted an editor from PRIDE Media to come to Dallas for Black Tie Dinner. The editor enjoyed a customized Dallas itinerary which included a tour and interview at The Resource Center and exposure to the many philanthropic ways Dallas supports and gives to the LGBTQ community.
