About the Exhibition
Brandon Jacob Hudson presents an exhibition of ceramic artworks displayed on their own, as photographs, and in combination with each other, creating a new experience of their dimensionality and presence. The exhibition consists of multiple outcomes between the 3D and the 2D, viewed on the walls and on pedestals. By having this variety of framed ceramic slabs, prints of ceramic surfaces and abstract objects intertwined with photographic prints of themselves, he compares their distinctions and gives the viewer an opportunity to consider this duality of physical objects versus objects through reproduction. He shows an appreciation in both approaches and also explores how the difference in how we experience them engages our sense of vision in a profound way.
Another duality that he emphasizes in this exhibit is the method of building: the mechanical versus the organic. This is seen when comparing the ceramic objects against the photographic prints, and in added textural elements found in the clay slabs, either through traces of handprints or in mechanical patterns. He combines these approaches together to reflect his current sense of the human condition and pushes his artworks to dwell on it.
