The Martin Luther King Community Center Honors Dr. King's Legacy with four special events

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday Celebration is a long-standing tradition of the MLK Center and will mark its 35th Anniversary with a weekend-long celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. The theme of this year's celebration is "Breaking the Chains of Injustice." Don't miss the special events commemorating Dr. King:


MLK Celebration Fair is a combination job fair, health fair and college fair for the community with numerous vendors exhibiting their products and services.

MLK Candlelight Ceremony is hosted by the Alpha Lambda Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Come join the special ceremony that includes the announcements of the MLK essay contests winners.

MLK Awards Gala is a time for the MLK Community Center to honor its supports with a special awards ceremony. The gala also features Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, President of Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, as the Keynote Speaker and several special guests and live performances. Stay for the "Afterglow" event after the gala, a professional networking mixer.

MLK Day Parade will begin at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Holmes Street and end at Fair Park. The parade stands as a testament to Dr. King's legacy of leadership in the fight for civil rights. Participants include civic organizations, youth groups, and other community organizations. The parade is free.
