On June 24th through June 30th, an extraordinary music festival honoring the legacy of a Dallas-based teacher named Lev Aronson will be held at Southern Methodist University (SMU) at the Meadows School of the Arts. The Aronson Cello Festival, which is celebrating its sixth season this year, attracts many of the world's leading musicians and artists. Previous cellists who have performed and taught at the festival include Lynn Harrell, Ralph Kirshbaum, John Sharp (principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Christopher Adkins (principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra), Mitchell Maxwell (principal cellist of the Dallas Opera Orchestra), Brian Thornton (soloist and cellist with the Cleveland Orchestra), Melissa Kraut, and many world-class and emerging artists. Their master classes and lectures have brought the teaching of Lev Aronson to the next generation of talented young artists. This season, we honor "Women and Classical Music" as our theme.
