The 84th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will be played on December 28 at AT&T Stadium. Last year, Clemson defeated Notre Dame on its way to the National Championship by a score of 30-3.
In January 1936, the late Dallas oilman J. Curtis Sanford established the Cotton Bowl Classic. The first Cotton Bowl Classic was played on January 1, 1937, when TCU defeated Marquette, 16-6. The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic was selected on April 24, 2012 as one of six bowl games to comprise the College Football Playoff. During this 12-year agreement, the Classic is part of a rotation for the national semifinals once every three years.
