On Assignment: Dallas Times Herald 1963 is an immersive exhibition that places visitors inside the newsroom during one of the most consequential weekends in American history. Through the work of Dallas Times Herald reporters and photographers, the exhibition traces the rapid shift from routine presidential coverage to national crisis—following events from Love Field and the motorcade route to Dealey Plaza, Parkland Hospital, Dallas Police Headquarters and back to the newsroom, where history was prepared for print.
Original photographs, handwritten field notes, press credentials and Pulitzer Prize–winning imagery reveal how local journalists documented the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in real time—balancing urgency, accuracy and responsibility under extraordinary pressure.
At the heart of the exhibition is a recreated 1960s newsroom, inviting visitors to step into the role of a reporter or editor, navigate breaking information and experience the demands of deadline reporting.
