Black-Owned Businesses to Visit in Dallas

Celebrating Black History Month can be done in many different ways, from taking time to honor those who have made strides for African Americans in the past to celebrating the movers and shakers that are making changes right now. One simple way to show support to the culture is patronizing black-owned businesses - and Dallas has plenty to offer. Don't know where to begin? We've created an itinerary for you of places to visit in February and every month after.

Flow-N-Nature

There's no better way to start your day than by centering yourself with a calm yoga session. Whether you're looking to embark on a mindfulness journey or want to work on your mobility, Flow-n-Nature is here to help you enter a flow state. Founded by Krishna Shorty, the Flow-n-Nature classes are designed to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and self-discovery, right in the heart of Oak Cliff.

Getting in and out of the hair salon in a timely manner can oftentimes be a struggle. Pressed Roots, a silk blowout bar in the Trinity Groves area, is stacked with stylists specialized in working with textured hair. The luxury Pressed Roots experience comes with complimentary bubbly and the guarantee of an express appointment.

Brunchaholics

It's time to fill your belly with something good. Brunchaholics, a popular restaurant that gained national popularity with its infamous soul food burrito and is now serving up savory dishes at their Ross Avenue brick-and-mortar location. Pick up an order of delicious dishes like shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles! The restaurant is open for drive-thru on weekends only for now. The restaurant is set to fully open its doors in Spring 2022.

Bonus Option: If you're a sucker for homemade biscuits, Kessler Baking Studio is serving them up every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until sold out.

Good Cycle

If nostalgia is your style, we've got a treat for you! Good Cycle, owned by Nikayla Golatt-Barrett, is a shop offering a wide variety of vintage, designer and handmade clothing for folks looking to buy, sell or trade. Despite opening during the pandemic, the Bishop Arts District shop is bringing in a steady flow of customers looking for a piece of the past.

Inspired Brew

For the perfect start to your day, embark on a caffeine-fueled journey at Inspired Brew. This Far North Dallas gem is a haven for coffee enthusiasts. Not sure what to order? The Grandpa Joe's Vanilla Lavendar Latte will knock you off your feet. If you really want to be knocked off your feet (and you're 21+) consider one of their specialty infused lattes like the Bourbon Butterscotch or Caramel Irish Cream.

Ateliê by The EXPERIENCE

More than a restaurant, Ateliê is a living workshop, a rustic yet refined café-bistro celebrating culinary creativity and cultural storytelling. The Plant Project

The Plant Project is Dallas’ first Black woman–owned plant shop, rooted in community, culture, and growth in the heart of Uptown. Created to bring more color and representation to the Dallas plant scene. Soft jazz fills the space alongside Olphactory Candles, a Black-owned Dallas brand, creating a calming, soulful atmosphere. More than a plant shop, The Plant Project is a space for plant therapy and rich history.
