A Rainbow of Music: Winter Chamber Concert
The New Texas Symphony Orchestra proudly presents A Rainbow of Music, a chamber music concert celebrating diversity, unity, and the vibrant beauty symbolized by the rainbow. This inspiring performance will take place at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church, a beloved Dallas landmark renowned for its commitment to inclusion and equality.
The concert program offers a rich palette of musical “colors,” each piece contributing its own unique voice to an uplifting and dynamic tapestry of sound. The performance begins with Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66, specifically the dramatic and passionate finale, Allegro appassionato. This opening piece sets the tone for an afternoon of musical exploration and emotional resonance. Following this, Jeremy Cohen’s Tango Eight introduces a lively and rhythmic energy, offering an upbeat contrast to Mendelssohn’s emotive work.
The program continues with Wilhelm Berger’s String Trio, Op. 69, featuring the spirited Lebhaft movement, a showcase of intricate harmonies and interplay among the strings. A captivating modern composition follows this, Lior Navok’s Quartet for Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Harp, which brings a contemporary perspective to the concert with its imaginative and evocative first movement.
After a brief 15-minute intermission, the concert resumes with Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane, arranged by Steven Watkins. This elegant and reflective piece offers a moment of serene beauty, contrasting with the more dynamic works in the program. The concert concludes with Franz Schubert’s Octet in F major, D. 803, one of the composer’s most celebrated chamber works. The performance includes two of its most striking movements: the lively Scherzo: Allegro vivace – Trio – Allegro vivace and the majestic final movement, Andante molto – Allegro – Andante molto – Allegro. Together, these works showcase the depth and richness of classical traditions, leaving the audience with a sense of joy and inspiration.
