Mocky Horror Picture Show Riffs "Super Mario Bros."
Dallas’s only live, interactive, movie-mocking comedy show is bringing back one of its best movie riffs of one of the weirdest film adaptations of all time. And you can watch it with them for FREE!
In 1993, Nintendo decided to turn its flagship video game Super Mario Bros. into a big-screen adventure film. How well did it do? Well, let’s just say that when The Guardian asked actor Bob Hoskins who played Mario Mario (yes, that’s his character’s name) what was the worst job he’d ever done, what was his biggest career disappointment and what part of his career he would change, he simply said, “Super Mario Bros.”
The first Super Mario Bros. movie made some truly bizarre decisions that have made it a cult classic with a huge fanbase. It’s set in some kind of industrial version of the Mushroom Kingdom in which the evil King Koopa, played by Dennis Hopper, rules over the region by de-evolving his enemies into human sized Goombas and Turtles and the former king into a growing fungus that engulfs the city. There’s also a princess, something about a meteorite piece that can merge dimensions and Mojo Nixon plays Toad (no, seriously).
That means it’s perfect for The Mocky Horror Picture Show! Comedians Liz Barksdale, Danny Gallagher and Albie Robles mock the movie while you watch it in the theater. They’ve also put several prompts on the screen so the audience can yell lines and use props and mock the movie with them!
Join Mocky Horror at 8 pm on Friday, July 25 at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (1050 N. Westmoreland Rd.) for their hilarious riff of the first Super Mario Bros. movie. The show is FREE so all you’ve got to do is walk in the door or RSVP your seats at http://mockyhorrorriffssuperma.... You could even win some cool prizes just by showing up and grabbing a prop bag!
