Dallas is rich in history and among those are staple Black-owned restaurants and businesses that have been around for a long time, like Smokey John's Bar-B-Que & Home Cooking. 2. Bam's Vegan

Chef Brandon Waller, also known as Bam, is bringing an innovative, vegan mind to West Dallas through Bam’s Vegan 100% plant-based cuisine. Waller began cooking vegan meals because he struggled to find reliable options in DFW that would satiate his vegan diet.

Bam’s Vegan now serves the community quality vegan foods like a smash burger made with a black bean and quinoa patty or their classic nachos made with a hearty lentil-quinoa chili topped with house-made coconut queso, chickpea sour cream, fresh pico de gallo and jalapeños. Owner, Trerrell Johnson, operates Snap Bakeshop with the utmost hospitality and the belief that everyone belongs and deserves a seat at the table. 4. Pan-African Connection Bookstore and Resource Center

Located in the ever-so-cultural neighborhood of Oak Cliff, Pan-African Connection Bookstore and Resource Center specializes in books revolving around topics like health, history and the movement of African and Black people. Akwete Tyehimba has run the shop with her family since 1989, when her husband Bandele Tyehimba first created the business.

Not only is it a bookstore but also an art gallery, clothing shop and community center offering people literature about Black people written by Black people, which are not often found in mass markets. Their goal is to offer an educational shopping experience, and the staff is always eager to help. 5. Chocolate Secrets

Chocolate Secrets is family owned and operated and CEO and Founder Pam G. Eudaric has created a space where the world’s finest chocolate lives among other sophisticated desserts, all able to be experienced in a smooth jazz setting. Dresha Harrison was raised by her Aunt Irene, and through her aunt’s passion for cooking she developed her skills and love for cooking by working alongside her in the kitchen. Now, Harrison owns and operates Aunt Irene's Kitchen, quickly becoming a fan favorite and staple restaurant in the neighborhood where people have congregated for years.

The restaurant is popular for its Cajun-inspired seafood boils, delectable sandwiches, their popular “Black Box” filled with crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn and their famous crack sauce, which is a mix of vinegar, honey and mustard. Created in the loving memory of daughter Brittany Ann English, 73rd Wine & Spirit is a family-owned boutique liquor store located in the heart of Lemmon Avenue. Parents Darlene and Larry English have opened this shop alongside their daughter Brandi Vonne since 2022. They pride themselves on being a top-tier spirits experience
