How is sustainability being incorporated into the new convention center?

Sustainability is a key priority in the redevelopment of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. The new facilities are being designed to LEED certification standards and will incorporate innovative strategies to reduce energy and water use while minimizing impacts on local infrastructure. Clear wayfinding and strong connections to Downtown Dallas hotels, dining and entertainment create a seamless experience both inside and outside the convention center.

Will the convention center remain operational during construction?

Yes, the redevelopment will follow a phased construction approach, allowing portions of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas to remain operational during the project. This strategy helps ensure Dallas can continue hosting meetings and events while the new facility is developed, with Visit Dallas working closely with planners to provide seamless solutions throughout the process.

What is the emergency evacuation procedures with a vertical campus design?

The vertical campus is designed with multiple protected stairwells, clearly marked exit routes and life-safety systems on every floor to ensure safe and efficient evacuation. In an emergency, occupants exit via stairwells to ground-level assembly areas, supported by trained staff, emergency communications and coordination with local first responders. Areas of refuge are also incorporated to assist individuals who may need additional support.
