Bigger, bolder, brighter. These words describe Dallas any time of year, but they're especially true during the holiday season. From magical musical performances and breathtaking art shows to sparkling city lights and shopping extravaganzas to captivating toy train displays and unforgettable animal encounters, Dallas offers festive holiday fun for the whole family. Here is a small list of some of the festivities, but check out the entire Big D Holiday lineup and you'll be sure to impress your guests!

Head to the garden

Make your holiday trip to the Dallas Arboretum and see it in a new way at 12 Days of Christmas, an outdoor exhibit that transforms the gardens into a holiday wonderland. Make time for a family photo at the 30-foot tree or be dazzled by the historic DeGolyer House and its magnificent holiday decorations. And for the first time ever, the Arboretum is inviting you to 12 Days of Christmas at Night, a special evening series to see nighttime showings and enjoy holiday music.

Make it a parade tradition

Need to get everyone out of the house? Grab a chair and set up camp along the route on the streets of Downtown Dallas for the annual Children's Health Holiday Parade on Dec. 3. Get into the groove with spirited marching bands and you can't miss the famous characters and larger-than-life balloons as they float by.

Be in awe of art

If there's one thing you can count on, it's that the Dallas art scene never disappoints and this year's holiday line up is no different. Take the art and history buffs to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel exhibition where you can experience the full-size replica of the magnificent Sistine Chapel without leaving Dallas. And be sure to check out all the creative happenings in the Big D Holiday lineup.

Get captivated by sound

Take in the enchanting sounds of the symphony with a night at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra with shows running through December, including the John Denver-Rocky Mountain Christmas performance on Dec. 23.

For an animal adventure

As the temperatures drop so do the admission prices at the Dallas Zoo for Penguin Days. Get in for just $7 and visit the African penguins before heading over to hand feed over two dozen species of birds in Bird's Landing or crawling through The Underzone, a tunnel that lets you see mongoose, hornbills and mole rats in their natural habitats.

Make it a winter getaway

Make it a trip for the whole family with a stay at the Hilton Anatole to enjoy Christmas at the Anatole. Make the most of your weekend with breakfast with Santa and marionette theater holiday shows before exploring the hotel for a scavenger hunt and making a stop at the face-painting station and popcorn bar.

There's so much more to explore this holiday season with Big D Holiday. Check the entire list of activities and events and fill your calendar with surprises and delights for your out-of-town guests. They'll be so surprised with all the BIG things happening in Dallas!
