City Council Briefed on Updated Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Master Plan
Visit Dallas CEO Craig Davis presents updated plan to City Council Committees featuring restructured timeline and new video rendering.
DALLAS, February 7, 2023 – On Tuesday, Dallas City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Economic Development Committee will be presented the latest plan for the new Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The full report, released ahead of this meeting can be found HERE.
Council Committees will see for the first time new renderings of the anticipated layout as well as key timeline updates for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center construction, putting the completion date for the new center in the second quarter of 2028, rather than the initially anticipated 2029 opening.
Visit Dallas’ President and CEO Craig Davis will speak in support of the new plan, touting better planning abilities for future convention center booking, a shorter total construction timeline and the support of local hoteliers.
“The excitement about Dallas and our new world class convention center is just getting started,” said Davis. “Our fantastic sales team and hospitality community has already booked this new center over 30 times before shovels have broken ground, and I am confident that will continue and increase with the shortened timeline.”
The City will move forward with the plans presented today, looking to solicit a project management firm in February of this year before a bond issuance and reimbursement solution to be presented later this year.
