In 2018, VisitDallas launched the Margarita Mile as a way to commemorate, immortalize and celebrate Dallas as the birthplace of the frozen margarita machine and stake its claim as the Official Home of the Frozen Margarita.

Restaurateur Mariano Martinez ingeniously invented the frozen margarita machine here almost 50 years ago, forever freezing in time the city's claim to the world's favorite cocktail. The invention made such a long-lasting food and beverage impact that the original machine now sits in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, right beside Julia Child's kitchen.

When asked about National Margarita Day, Mariano Martinez, Inventor of the Frozen Margarita Machine said, "Frozen Margaritas and Sizzling Fajitas... It doesn't get any better than that."

Visitors and locals can enjoy decades of heritage year round on the Margarita Mile – a curated collection of Dallas' best and brightest margaritas, conveniently located in a colorful app. In addition to earning fun prizes along the way, the Margarita Mile is one of the most unique ways to experience the Official Home of the Frozen Margarita, as well as Dallas' diverse neighborhoods, culture and culinary scene, one location at a time.

"Mariano's ingenuity really is something to be celebrated on National Margarita Day," said Frank Librio, Chief Marketing Officer for VisitDallas. "But the story doesn't end there, Dallas chefs, restaurateurs and mixologists continue to innovate. It's no wonder Dallas was named the Bon Appétit magazine Food City of the Year. A traditional, tart tequila concoction with Dallas' diverse dining scene – it's the perfect pairing on National Margarita Day."
