6 Places to Have Afternoon Tea in Dallas
Don your finest threads and head out to high tea for a nice afternoon outing that will have you feeling European for a day!
Spring brings not only warmer weather and budding blooms but also plenty of opportunities to celebrate, such as Easter or Mother's Day gatherings. Why not enjoy some of the finer things in life at afternoon tea for a springtime get-together?
With delectable pastries, savory sandwiches, cold bubbly and of course, delicious herbal and fruit-infused hot teas served in a classy setting, it would be hard to curate a more memorable culinary experience. Here are just a few of the best spots for full tea services in Dallas.
DeGolyer Tea Room at the Dallas Arboretum
From now until April 5, stop by the Dallas Arboretum's springtime display of 500,000 tulips, Japanese cherry trees and more at the "Dallas Blooms" festival before taking a break for tea service at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. Held in the garden's tea room, the three-course event begins with a seasonal soup. The second course includes assorted tea sandwiches and the ending course features truffles, petit fours and more. Make reservations here.
Hotel Crescent Court
The Great Hall & Conservatory is a lovely setting in the Uptown hotel for afternoon tea each weekend. Select your Dammann Frères tea blend and nibble on light sandwiches and scones in between sips, or elevate the outing with endless champagne. Yes, we said endless! Make reservations here.
Lavendou
Serving authentically French countryside cuisine, Lavendou offers an incredible menu featuring seafood, salads, soups and more. The restaurant also offers a traditional French High Tea spread that is affordable and great for groups. For just $22.95, you get English breakfast tea (or another tea of your choice), finger sandwiches, beautiful mini pastries, various tea breads, scones and jam. Order a bottle of sparkling rosé for a cap on the afternoon, and for true indulgence, add on an additional dessert of French apple tart. Make reservations here.
Potpourri Boulangerie
Tucked away in Oak Cliff is a little tearoom offering a unique menu for spring. Boasting several courses for groups of no more than four, you'll find all kinds of delicacies on your tea tower such as leek tart, strawberry and ricotta and gorgeous rose macarons, the trendy meringue-based dessert. For $55 per head, attendees will also have a taste of three different dishes including a yummy quinoa salad, gnocchi pasta with veggies and finish with their strawberry shortcake. Feel free to bring your own champagne for a small corking fee. Simply book 24 hours in advance. Make reservations here.
Taschen Library at The Joule
What could make for a more sophisticated day than perusing Taschen Library's artsy collection of coffee-table style books covering everything from architecture to fashion, then following it up with high tea inside The Joule Hotel's elegant lobby? Or even more conveniently, enjoy a night or two at the hotel, with the weekend culminating in a warm cup of Moroccan mint green or Texas chile chai alongside a lavender scone. Teatime is at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoons in April, and each day has a special theme. While the experience is a little more high-end at $115 per person, it's a good value, with the menu including a great variety of savory and sweet bites. Additionally, you get to go home with a Taschen book. Make reservations here.
The French Room at the Adolphus
Time spent at The Adolphus Hotel never disappoints, so their "Alice in Wonderland"-themed spring tea will be no exception. Admire the luxury European design and decor of the hotel before being seated to eat, drink and be merry. The French Room's spring tea menu debuts during Easter weekend this year and features dishes like truffled egg salad on a butter croissant or crostini with brie, fig and crispy prosciutto, an assortment of scones, several caviars and various tea cakes. Tea and several wine options are available, as well as kid-friendly offerings like Nutella and marshmallow fluff sandwiches. At $65 per person plus tax and service charge, this would be a wonderful family stop for Easter Sunday, especially since the Easter Bunny will be there for photos! Make reservations here.
