2018 State Fair of Texas: How to Save at the Gate

Save on admission and your favorite state fair foods.

The State Fair of Texas opens Sept. 28 and we're counting down the days to get our Fletcher's Corny Dog fix. The Fair offers plenty of discounts to save on admission and food so you can start planning your trip with these tips in mind. Any way we can save a couple dollars, we'll take it!

Savings throughout the Fair (Sept. 28-Oct. 21)

Ride DART and save. 

Thanks to the convenience of the nearby Fair Park Station, getting to the State Fair is a breeze. Buy your discounted tickets to the fair right on your DART GoPASS app. Admission tickets are just $16 and child/senior tickets are $12.

Save at the grocery store.

Kroger offers advance purchase general admission for $16.50 or season passes for $39 (a $6 savings!)

Make it a Dr Pepper night.  

Bring an empty Dr Pepper can after 5 p.m. any day at the fair and admission is half price. One can per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Find your discount with your lunch. 

Before you recycle your McDonald's leftovers, check the tray liner or takeout bag for a $5 off general admission coupon. The coupon can also be used for half price off a children's ticket (with purchase of a general admission ticket). One coupon per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Shop and save at NorthPark Center.

Purchase advance tickets to the Fair at NorthPark for $15 – a $3 savings! $4.50 from each ticket will benefit Family Getaway, an organization providing stability and life-changing services to families with children affected by homelessness. Tickets are available now through Oct. 21 at the NorthPark Concierge located on level one.


Day specific discounts

Opening Day (Sept. 28)

In partnership with Texas Lottery Commission, on opening day the fair will offer FREE admission to all active military, retired military and veterans! Spouses of service men and women with a valid Military Spouse ID and accompanying children under the age of 18 also receive FREE admission.

Bring a full 20 oz. bottle of Dasani water (or any 20 oz. Coca-Cola product) for donation to the North Texas Food Bank and get State Fair admission for only $9! One donation per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 


First Responders Day (Oct. 12)

The Fair will recognize all first responders and their contributions to the community with a special day honoring their service. All active and retired public law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency service agencies will receive FREE admission to the Fair when they present a valid badge or ID. Additionally, up to three admission tickets will be available for their family members.


Tuesdays (Oct. 2, 9 and 16)

Come to the Fair for Dr Pepper half-price Tuesdays. Bring an empty Dr Pepper can and receive a $9 admission ticket. One can per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Head to the Midway and save – most rides are reduced price on Tuesdays. Midway discounts exclude the Thrillway and the Texas Star. 


Wednesdays (Oct. 3, 10 and 17)

Bring four cans of food to the Fair gates as a donation towards the North Texas Food Bank on any Wednesday and receive a $4 admission ticket. One four-can donation per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers.


Thursdays (Oct. 4, 11 and 18)

Experience the Fair during Thrifty Thursdays! Every Thursday, most items, including the popular cotton candy, corny dogs and funnel cakes, are between two and seven coupons, saving almost half the cost on most items. Check back here for the full list of Thrifty Thursday specials.

Senior citizens 60 years and better get into the Fair FREE every Thursday. Discount may not be combined with any other offers. 

Bring an empty 20 oz. bottle of any Coca-Cola product and receive $9 admission. One bottle per person. Discount may not be combined with any other offers.
