1. HEAD TO THE KIDS' BOARDWALK
For first time fairgoers with kids, this is where you need to be! This colorful venue features a variety of kid-friendly shows, games and activities that's free with Texas State Fair admission. Catch a wacky puppet show, get creative with arts and crafts or wind down with Mother Goose Story Time. The Kids' Boardwalk is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
2. TAKE A RIDE AT KIDWAY
The Kidway area of the Midway is a family-friendly environment with scaled-down rides and games for pint-sized fairgoers. Be sure to ride the Dentzel Carousel, one of the most popular rides at the State Fair of Texas. If you have older kids, take them on the Texas Star Ferris Wheel or make a splash at Sparklett's Log Flume.
3. ENJOY A SHOW AT THE OAK FARMS THEATER
Kids will love the interactive shows at the Oak Farms Theater. With a show starting every hour, families can easily attend the Backyard Circus or the World of Magic Show. The Backyard Circus features lion tamers, ballerinas, tight-rope walkers, and let's your little ones dress up and join the fun! The World of Magic Show is a new attraction that will wow kids (and even parents) of all ages. Enjoy magic tricks, illusions and a floating robot.
4. HAVE FUN ON THE FARM
There are so many fun activities and exhibits for the tiniest of aspiring farmers. Let your little ones become a farmer at Little Hands on the Farm. Suitable for toddlers to eight years old, this miniature farm allows kids to plant seeds, gather eggs and drive a tiny tractor before harvesting crops and taking them to the market. Older kids will enjoy the Kids' Pedal Tractor Pulls (suitable for ages four to 12 years old) as they test their driving skills and compete for prizes. 5. FEED A STINGRAY AT THE CHILDREN'S AQUARIUM
If you haven't taken your kids to the Children's Aquarium yet, now is the perfect time! With more than 250 species to learn about and interactive exhibits, it makes the perfect learning adventure for the entire family. The aquarium has a coastal touch pool and daily stingray feedings that the kiddos will enjoy.
6. PLAY ALONG AT THE PEE WEE STAMPEDE AND RODEO
Wrangle up your cowboys and cowgirls and head to the Pee Wee Stampede and Rodeo for some fun pretend play. Little fairgoers can throw on their cowboy gear, race on stick-horses and more. The rodeo is suitable for ages three to six and has three daily performances at noon, 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
7. TAKE A FOOD BREAK
When the kids get hangry, stop by Fletcher's Corny Dog stand for a classic State Fair corny dog. Parents can also treat the kiddos to warm gourmet chocolate chip cookies and milk at Stiffler's Mom's Cookie Factory. If your kids don't leave the fair in a food coma, you're not doing it right!
8. END THE NIGHT WITH LIGHTS
End a long day at the fair on the bright side with the Starlight Parade and Illumination Sensation. Enjoy a dazzling display of spectacular floats, upbeat music and a variety of fun characters every night at the Starlight Parade, beginning at 7:15 p.m. After that, take the entire family down to Illumination Sensation where you can see the Esplanade reflecting pool at 8 p.m. with a water and laser show featuring fireworks, liquid-fire fountains, dancing waters and colorful music.
