The Dallas Arts District is the nation’s largest continuous urban arts district and home to an abundant of museums, festivals and live performance venues. Enjoy the Dallas Museum of Art or the Crow Museum of Asian Art, which both offer free admission. Plus with the Arts District only steps away from Klyde Warren Park, there are plenty of opportunities for more exciting and free activities like fitness classes, lectures series, concerts and more.
The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection brings ten centuries of craftsmanship as one of the world’s only museums dedicated to samurai art with suits of armor, helmets, masks and weaponry. What makes this fine collection of Japanese armor a Dallas must-see is its location. The museum sits in a historic 1920s elementary school building, before it was transformed into a museum and Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar.
The Crow Museum of Asian Art is a breathtaking display of sculpture, artifacts and paintings dedicated to the arts of China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. Its centerpiece is a serene sculpture garden that houses 15 contemporary and historical works nestled amongst bamboo, maples, azaleas and pine trees. Inside, the museum features permanent and rotating exhibitions, lectures and gallery talks, wellness programs and special events.
The Economy in Action is a free exhibit at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Through interactive exhibits and multimedia displays, learn about the Federal Reserve, money and the economy.
View one of the largest collections of African American folk art in the nation at the African American Museum. Located in Fair Park, the museum hosts several traveling exhibits including an ongoing display of Black renaissance paintings, decorative arts, handmade quilts and photographs, showcasing African American culture and history.
NorthPark Center not only has a variety of shops, including high-end boutiques, mainstream department stores and only-in-Dallas shops, but the mall also houses an impressive art collection. The art collection includes various imaginative sculptures and major works of art from artists like Andy Warhol and Mark di Suvero. Additionally, the mall provides a complimentary guide of NorthPark art to view at your leisure, while you shop.
One of the first of its kind, the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art displays one of the biggest collections of MADI art. The museum displays colorful, breathtaking paintings and sculptures, as well as offers insight to the 1940s international abstract art movement.
Home to various art galleries and exhibits, the Design District is blooming with free art. Explore the Dallas Contemporary, which features imaginative exhibits, as well as a rich collection of some of the best contemporary artwork from local and world-renowned artists.
