We're spotlighting our very own Dallas Fort Worth International Airport for a look at what makes them unique and what they're doing to keep safety top of mind.
Like a City
Airports like the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport have more in common with a small city than a transportation hub. For example, DFW is larger than Manhattan, covering more than 26.9 square miles and carrying its own zip code. Plus, it employs its own police, fire and medical departments.
With more than 62.5 million passengers visiting the airport each year and supporting 228,000 full-time jobs, DFW's economic impact on North Texas is more than $37 billion annually.
Safety First
The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything about how the travel and tourism industry functions. All around the world, airlines and airports have adapted to ensure the safest travel experience as they welcome guests back.
In August 2020, DFW Airport became the first airport in the world to earn GBAC Star Accreditation – signifying a gold level standard of prepared facilities and demonstrating a commitment to keeping customers and employees safe.
In addition, enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures were implemented and are still in effect. This includes a Smart Restroom system, decontamination protocols, increased cleaning frequencies and more. You can read the latest updates to DFW's health and safety here.

Keep yourself entertained while awaiting your flight to board with an art tour, a tasty meal or a little shopping spree!
From sculptures to paintings to mosaics, the airport has more than 30 works of art designed by local, national and international artists. Most pieces can be seen throughout International Terminal D and Skylink stations, and you can also book a tour if your schedule permits.
Hungry? Grab a bite to eat from a made-in-Dallas restaurant like Twisted Root, Shinsei or the Dallas Cowboys Club, a sports-themed bar and grill. And don't forget to pick up any last-minute gifts before you depart with a visit to the many shops located throughout each terminal.
Dog-friendly amenities
Travel with your pups with ease. DFW has designated pet relief areas in each of its five terminals, both inside and outside security areas. And if you and your furry friends plan to stay overnight, they've created a pet resort – Paradise 4 Paws – that's welcome to cats and dogs and is staffed 24 hours a day for your convenience.
