Valentine's Day isn't just for couples – it's a chance to celebrate with fun and love for the whole family. Check out these events the entire family will love being a part of.

Pack a picnic and admire the flowers at the Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is one the most beautiful picnic areas in Dallas surrounded by beautiful florals bursting in color throughout the gardens. Pack your own picnic lunch or pick up some bites at the Cafe on the Green where kids can roam on the lawns and parents can relax surrounded by nature. Admission to the Arboretum is just $5 through Feb. 22. Be sure to come back later this month for the opening of Dallas Blooms, one of the largest floral festival in the Southwest on Feb. 23.

Celebrate Wildlife Weekend at the Dallas Zoo and Adopt-an-Animal

The Dallas Zoo is spreading the love this Valentine's Day as they celebrate Texas Wildlife, Feb. 9 – 10. Kids can make Valentine's Day cards for their favorite animal, staff person, or conservation hero. Afterwards, the whole family can enjoy live music and grab a bite to eat from one of the dining options at the zoo. Another fun option is to give your kids the chance to adopt a cuddly animal and spread some love for animal conversation. The adopter will receive a personalized adoption certificate, with a color photo of your animal, a zookeeper's report with information on your animal and a special invitation to an event at the Dallas Zoo. The Adopt-An-Animal program runs all year round, and parents can rest assured that the zoo takes care of the all the feeding and upkeep of your chosen animal. Admission to the zoo is just $8 for kids and adults through Feb. 28!

Enjoy a Valentine's Day fun run

Show your love to your family, or maybe your competitive side, with a fun run for the whole family. Join more than 10,000 runners and walkers in the Hot Chocolate 15k/5k on Feb. 9 in Fair Park. The best part of this race is the yummy post-race party where your family will receive a finisher's mug filled with hot chocolate.

Go for chocolate treats

Surprise the kids with a visit to Kate Weiser Chocolate where the kids will love Carl the melting snowman. The hand-painted chocolates are as beautiful as they are tasty, and the unique combinations of flavors are always fun to explore. Alternatively, indulge your family with a variety of chocolate tours on offer from Dallas by Chocolate Tours. Tours include the Decadent Valentines Dream tour, Chocolate for Your Heart tour and more. See website for various times and dates of tours.
